Duo eyeing railways jobs duped of ₹9.5L in Ludhiana

The tricksters also presented fake joining letters to the victims to win their confidence.
The accused have been identified as Gurwinder Singh and his wife, Harpreet Kaur, of Mundian Khurd, Jamalpur, and their accomplices, Gautam of Patna, Bihar, and Bodhraj of Jain Colony, Tibba.
In the first case, Jasminder Singh, 62, of Tibba village, Jamalpur, filed a complaint with the Jamalpur station on July 5.
Jasminder alleged that he met the couple through Bodhraj. The group had claimed that they had connections in the Indian Railways, and could help his son, Varinder Singh, get a job in exchange for ₹4.5 lakh.
After he paid them the money, he was told his son had got a job at Danapur, Patna. When Varinder reached Danapur, Bodhraj’s accomplice Gautam gave him a joining letter and told him to go to Kolkata. However, after reaching Kolkata, his son discovered that the letter was fake.
Similarly, Lovepreet Singh, 23, of Guru Arjun Dev Nagar, said Bodhraj knew his father, and assured to get him a railways job with the help of the couple. For this, he paid them ₹5 lakh.
Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Harbhajan Singh, in-charge, Mundiya Kalan police post, who investigated Jasminder’s complaint, said a case under Sections 420 (cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code was registered following a probe. He added that they were working to trace and nab the accused.
A similar case was also registered on Lovepreet’s complaint at the Tibba police station.
