Ceiling plaster falls at Gurugram condo, residents seek structural audit

Residents said the Friday incident was not isolated, while the victim described the collapse as a narrow escape despite no visible signs of damage.

A large portion of ceiling plaster inside a house at Paras Dews condominium in Sector 106 along the Dwarka Expressway collapsed on Friday evening, locals said. However, no injuries were reported.

Residents told HT the incident was not isolated and alleged that similar incidents had took place at the society in the past, including several in 2024, raising concerns over the safety and structural upkeep of high-rise buildings.

Anam Khaliq, whose ceiling’s plaster collapsed, said she was in the living room and was just two feet away when the plaster fell. “It was a narrow escape. There were no visible signs that the plaster was in poor condition,” she said, adding that she lives alone and the consequences could have been worse.

Meanwhile, Ashok Dutta, president of residents’ welfare association (RWA), said residents will meet Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gurugram on Monday and demand a structural audit. “This is not an isolated incident... There have been multiple such incidents,” he said.

In response, Anil Yadav, facility manager at Paras Dews, said the society was handed over in 2023. “The maintenance inside individual flats was not under facility management’s jurisdiction, though support was extended,” Yadav added.

However, Dutta alleged that the society had not yet been handed over to the RWA and that the matter was pending before Haryana Real Estate Regulatory Authority (HRERA), where it is registered and the next hearing is scheduled for August 24.

Similar incidents were reported in Sector 102 condominiums in June and July this year.
