MCG fines sanitation agency ₹12 lakh in fresh Zone-5 action

The agency was required to deploy 76 vehicles daily, but inspections found shortages. MCG also found 26 tractor-trolleys and 286 workers absent.

The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has imposed at least ₹17.31 lakh in penalties on a private sanitation agency in two clearly documented actions this year, including fresh penalties of ₹1,200,466 in Zone-5 for shortages in the deployment of vehicles, tractor-trolleys and sanitation workers, officials said.

HT has withheld the name of the agency, as its officials did not respond to queries despite repeated attempts. The agency was contracted over the past month, with the contract having a duration of one year.

According to the first notice issued by the office of the joint commissioner, Zone 5, the agency was contractually required to deploy 76 vehicles daily for door-to-door waste collection. However, inspections by assistant sanitation inspectors between July 25 and August 11 found substantially fewer vehicles operating on several days. The MCG imposed a penalty of ₹9,95,040 for the shortfall.

A separate notice recorded deficiencies in the deployment of tractor-trolleys and sanitation workers across Zone 5. Inspections between August 1 and August 11 found 26 tractor-trolleys and 286 sanitation workers absent during the period. The corporation imposed ₹65,000 for the shortage of tractor-trolleys and xxy,140,426 for the manpower shortfall, taking the second penalty to ₹205,426.

The fresh penalties take the documented total imposed on the agency to at least ₹17,31,409. In a separate Zone-4 action reported in July, MCG had imposed ₹5,30,943, comprising ₹1,47,500 for tractor-trolley shortages and ₹3,83,443 for sanitation-worker shortages.

MCG officials said the action was aimed at strengthening accountability among private sanitation agencies and ensuring uninterrupted waste collection across the city.

Additional municipal commissioner Jayveer Yadav told HT, “All agencies associated with sanitation work are required to provide the stipulated number of vehicles, tractor-trolleys and sanitation workers as per the terms of their work orders. Wherever inspections reveal deficiencies, responsibility will be fixed and penalties as prescribed under the contract will be imposed.”
