BBAU to approach UGC to begin distance education
BBAU plans to offer distance education in various fields and regular courses, while enhancing AI training and promoting innovation through new initiatives.
Authorities at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) are set to send proposals to start distance education courses to the University Grants Commission (UGC). The university got a NAAC A++ grade in 2023 and any institute with a grade NAAC A or above can begin distance education courses with approval from the UGC.
Prof Raj Kumar Mittal, vice-chancellor, BBAU, said that the university is set to send proposals for distance education courses in Home Science, Management, Social Work, Yoga and Engineering.
“These courses will ensure the university reaches more students and it will also become a source of revenue for the university at the same time. If everything goes right these courses are expected to begin from next academic year,” said Mittal.
He said that the university is also planning to begin regular courses - MA Geography, English and Psychology. Additionally, the university is planning to begin activity based learning from the upcoming session.
“The university is planning to begin hobby courses and activity-based learning so that students can hone their skills while learning a few new ones.” said Mittal.
The university is also planning to create a centre of excellence for artificial intelligence as part of which workshops will be organised from time to time.
“Artificial intelligence will be taught to all students regardless of their course and discipline as a value-added course enabling them to get better employment opportunities. Since AI is part of every sphere of life the value added course in AI will allow students to become more market ready. While training programmes and diplomas in AI for M.Sc and M.Tech students have also been planned,” said the vice chancellor.
An Intellectual Property Rights cell - Navkalpana - a section 8 company has also been established by the university, Mittal shared. “Navkalpana is working for promoting innovation, incubation and entrepreneurship. It is also building a university industry partnership by becoming a bridge between both. Besides, the university is also working to meet the requirements of research for society and industry. The students will also work on innovation for Make in India and Viksit Bharat mission,” said Mittal.
