ED grilling of Sonia Gandhi: NSUI members hold protest at AU
While staging protest at Allahabad University (AU) NSUI protestors held placards having slogans against the central government like “Whenever BJP is afraid, it uses ED and CBI” written on them
A large number of members of National Student Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of Congress, staged a protest on the campus of Allahabad University (AU) on Tuesday against the Enforcement Directorate (ED) questioning of party’s interim president Sonia Gandhi in the National Herald case.
The protest was led by state president of NSUI and former vice-president of AU Student Union Akhilesh Yadav.
Yadav said “Sonia Gandhi left her home, country and family for the sake of a son of India (referring to her late husband and former PM Rajiv Gandhi) and unfortunately cruel times snatched that too from her. Still she did not give up her resolve to imbibe Indian values. The journey of her struggle should be respected by every Indian and these are the times to stand with our leader who is being harassed by those in power.”
While staging their protest at the union hall of AU, NSUI protestors held placards in their hands which had slogans against the central government like “Whenever BJP is afraid, it uses ED and CBI” written on them.
District president of NSUI, Achcha Krantiveer, said the way in which the Modi government was continuously interfering and misusing constitutional institutions the country was moving towards undeclared emergency.
“It is now making an issue of the newspaper which played a constructive role during the freedom movement,” he said.
State general secretary of NSUI, Ajay Pandey said this was undeclared emergency and Sonia Gandhi was a symbol of truth as she was fighting firmly.
Several NSUI members were detained by the police when they were marching towards the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Balson crossing.
