Following the alleged incident, BJP leaders and workers staged a protest outside the police station on Sunday morning alleging that a man had also died in the incident and a sub-inspector of the police station concerned did not take any action. However, the deceased person’s father later said his son died in a road accident.

Prayagraj senior superintendent of police (SSP) Ajay Kumar said one Satish, 20, son of Baburam, was returning to Nevada village from Mubarakpur. He received serious injuries as his bike slipped. Satish was taken to hospital where he died during treatment, he said. However, it was alleged that Satish died after he was assaulted by some people. To ascertain exact cause of his death, the body had been sent for an autopsy, SSP said.

“Further action will be taken on the basis of autopsy report and investigation. Strict action will be taken against any policeman found guilty of negligence and also against those found involved in spreading rumours and causing disturbance,” he added.

Satish ‘s father Baburam said his son had gone to Mubarakpur market and was returning home. He received injuries after his bike slipped. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he died during treatment. The bike belonged to another person of the village. Baburam denied any incident of assault with his son.

BJP district secretary Kamlesh Pal and other local workers claimed that some youths were playing music on Saturday night to celebrate BJP’s victory in polls. They took out a victory procession from Mubarakpur to Nevada village. Meanwhile, a group of people belonging to Yadav community objected to music and procession, they alleged.

It was also alleged that those opposing the celebrations assaulted the youths with sticks and hurled bricks. Satish, 20, received injuries in the assault. Kamlesh Pal further alleged that sub-inspector, Baharia police station, Sanjay Yadav did not take any action against the assailants and instead detained Sandeep Pal and Sunil Saroj who were with Satish. The duo was released after BJP workers gheraoed Baharia police station and demanded action against SI Sanjay Yadav, the BJP leader claimed.
