Police have arrested the man identified as Ashok Kumar Chaurasiya and sent the body for post mortem.

Inspector in-charge of Thakurganj police station Harishankar Chandra said as per reports, victim Pushpa Chaurasiya had an argument with her husband over his drinking habit.

“She objected to her husband’s daily drinking habit even during day time. This led to a heated argument and in a fit of rage Ashok opened fire with his licensed gun causing bullet wound to the woman on chest,” Chandra said.

The locals hearing gunshot sound rushed to the spot and took the victim to trauma centre and informed the police. However, the woman succumbed to her injuries during the treatment, he said.

The couple has three children, two sons Abhay and Saumya alias Arpit and a daughter Khushi alias Aadya.

He said while Abhay is studying in Delhi Arpit and Aadya were on the first floor of the house at the time of incident.

“The police would record the statements of the children to ascertain exact reason behind the crime and further probe is underway,” he said.
