Mayawati expels former health minister Anant Kumar Mishra from BSP
Mayawati emphasised that with the election atmosphere intensifying in Uttar Pradesh, party members must remain vigilant against opponents’ tactics
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati on Thursday expelled former health minister Anant Kumar Mishra, also known as Antu Mishra, from the party on charges of anti-party activities. Mishra served in the BSP government from 2007 to 2012.
In a post on X, Mayawati emphasised that with the election atmosphere intensifying in Uttar Pradesh, party members must remain vigilant against opponents’ tactics such as coercion, bribery, and discrimination, and remain fully dedicated to ensuring the success of the BSP’s Ambedkarite mission in the upcoming assembly polls.
Mishra was in the spotlight during the BSP government following the murder of two chief medical officers in Lucknow and the exposure of the multi-crore National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam.
Facing intense political pressure, Mishra resigned as health minister in April 2011. He was investigated by the CBI for alleged corruption in the allocation of funds for various health schemes and for taking bribes from drug suppliers.
Mishra, attempted to join the BJP in March 2024 before the Lok Sabha election. However, his joining was stalled by a senior BJP leader. Mishra had not been active in the BSP for several months and did not attend party meetings chaired by Mayawati after the Lok Sabha election, nor did he participate in party activities.
