Accident in U.P.’s Shravasti leaves six Nepalese dead

Six Nepalese nationals, including four members of a family, died in a car accident in Uttar Pradesh's Shravasti district. The accident occurred when the driver tried to avoid cattle on the road and hit a tree. The driver survived and is in hospital.

Six Nepalese nationals, including four members of a family, died when their SUV hit a tree and fell into a ditch in Ikauna police station area in Uttar Pradesh’s Shravasti district on Saturday evening, police said on Sunday.

The accident occurred when the SUV driver attempted to avoid cattle on the road and rammed into a tree before the vehicle overturned, they added. A total seven people were inside the ill-fated vehicle, they said.

Confirming the mishap that took place on Shravasti-Bahraich road, station house officer, Ikauna police station, Mahima Nath Upadhyay said one Nilansh Gupta, a resident of Tribhuwan Chowk area of Nepalganj city in Nepal, had gone to Balrampur along with his family members after hiring an SUV from Nanpara.

They were returning from Balrampur when the accident took place, the cop said. All other passengers excluding the driver died on the spot. Some locals managed to save the driver who was identified as Ajay Kumar Mishra of Basahri village under Nanpara area of Bahraich. The driver who sustained severe injuries was admitted to Bahraich Medical College, the SHO added.

Those killed were identified as Vaibhav, 36, his wife Niti, 34, their two minor daughters Vedika, 3, and Shreya, 1.5, Nilansh, 24, and his sister Sunidhi, 20, SHO Upadhyay said. On being informed, police reached the spot and took the bodies into their possession.

The SHO said the relatives of the deceased had reached here and the bodies were being handed over to them after post-mortem examination. However, no case was registered in connection with the accident, the cop added.
