55-year-old man from Andheri sexually assaults wife, arrested

As per the police, the accused and the victim are married for 18 years and have been facing marital problems over the last few years.

Mumbai: A 55-year-old Andheri-based businessman was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting his 47-year-old wife under the influence of alcohol. In the past, the victim has registered complaints of domestic abuse against the accused.

As per the police, the accused and the victim are married for 18 years and have been facing marital problems over the last few years.

Senior police inspector Bandopant Bansode of Amboli police station confirmed the incident.

“The crime was committed late on the night of January 21 and the victim approached us on Sunday morning, saying that she had been severely assaulted. We verified the victim’s claims and arrested the accused immediately. Further inquiries into the matter are underway,” he said.

According to the victim’s statement, she had an argument with the accused on Saturday night while he was drinking liquor. The argument took a turn for the worse when the accused, who allegedly had a history of violent behaviour, tried to force himself on her and the victim resisted. The accused allegedly bit the victim several times, drawing blood, and then brutalised her using a flower vase.

The police subsequently picked up the accused from his residence and, after preliminary inquiries, as well as the victim’s medical reports, established the crime, placed him under arrest on Sunday evening. The accused has been charged with assault, rape, criminal intimidation and forcible unnatural intercourse under the Indian Penal Code and is currently in police custody.
