Mumbai: The leader of the Opposition leader Ajit Pawar on Friday raised questions on giving Aniksha Jaisinghani, daughter of bookie Anil Jaisinghani, access to the residence of deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis. Pawar sought to know how the home minister did not come to know about the woman and her father, who is also said to have an underworld connection.

Aniksha was arrested on March 16 after Fadnavis’ wife, Amruta, filed a complaint with the police alleging that Aniksha threatened and asked her to pay 10 crore.

“I believe what the deputy chief minister had said in the assembly is true, but the question remains,” Pawar said, adding that “You have been a home minister for many years and this matter was also going on for two to three years. How come she could enter your house, when her father is also said to have connections with the underworld, what do we understand?”

He made the remarks while starting a debate over weakening law and order in the state assembly on Friday.

Aniksha, posing as a fashion designer, befriended Amruta. She then started seeking Amruta’s help in settling the cases against her father who was absconding for years. According to Amruta’s police complaint, when she denied and blocked Aniksha’s number, the latter sent threatening videos and messages from another number. In the video, Aniksha was seen packing a bag with cash and the same bag was seen in the hands of a member of Fadnavis’s staff at the house of the deputy CM. Fadnavis has already said that police are probing thoroughly in the case.

The NCP leader further demanded a ban on gambling applications and action against actors, who endorse such apps. “Some 42 people committed suicide in Chennai owing to these apps and the state government should not wait for anything of this sort to happen in Maharashtra. The advertisements of such applications need to be stopped completely. The actors are doing these advertisements for their benefit and should be booked for this,” he said, adding that they should take the help of the central government to stop this menace as it can destroy several families.

The unemployment is on rise and many people are falling prey to these applications for instant money, he pointed out.

Pawar remarked that the interfaith committee formed by the state government violates several articles of the constitution. The state government needs to ensure that the law they are planning to bring against religious conversion should not lead to religious animosity and the social fabric of the state should not be destroyed, he pointed out.

The NCP leader also stated that politics of revenge and threats need to be stopped by the Shinde-Fadnavis government. “We do have ideological differences, but we are not enemies. Let’s improve the political environment of Maharashtra.”
