Anil Deshmukh to undergo surgery for dislocated shoulder

A source close to the Deshmukh family informed that the leader has been a patient of bilateral dislocation of shoulders for 40 years

Mumbai: Former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh will undergo surgery for his left dislocated shoulder, said doctors from the state-run Sir JJ Group of Hospitals, where he is currently admitted.

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader has a history of recurrent shoulder dislocation and suffered one after having a fall in the bathroom on March 30.

“We admitted him on April 2. He is currently undergoing treatment in the orthopaedic department. All required diagnostic tests are done and we will plan his treatment course accordingly,” said Dr Pallavi Saple, dean, Sir JJ Group of Hospitals.

An official from the hospital said that the 72-year-old leader will undergo shoulder dislocation surgery this week.

A source close to the Deshmukh family informed that the leader has been a patient of bilateral dislocation of shoulders for 40 years. “He kept postponing the surgery. He fell down in the bathroom and dislocated his shoulder again,” said the source adding that Deshmukh also has prostate and urine problems for which he will undergo treatment at JJ Hospital.
