Two WR ticket checkers collect fines over ₹1 crore each

Mumbai: Two ticket checkers, from Churchgate and Rajkot divisions of Western Railway’s (WR) commercial department achieved a milestone. They have each collected fines over ₹1 crore from unauthorised train travellers and from passengers carrying unbooked luggage.

KD Oza, deputy chief ticket inspector (CTI), from the Rajkot division, has collected ₹1.13 crore from 14,928 cases in 2022-23 (till February) while Zahid Qureshi, deputy CTI from Churchgate’s flying squad collected ₹1.06 crore after detecting 13,116 cases between January and December 2022.
Another WR employee, Ajmer Singh, senior CTI from the Ahmedabad division, collected ₹93.47 lakh as fines from 17,806 travellers.
Their women colleagues were not far behind either. Shail Tiwari, deputy CTI from Ahmedabad division, collected ₹54.70 lakh by detecting 7, 293 cases until February 2023, while Geetaben Vasava, CTI from Churchgate’s flying squad collected ₹51.19 lakh from 7,085 cases.
Sumit Thakur, chief public relations officer, WR, said: “It is noteworthy that WR has earned ₹158.28 crore from ticket-checking after registering 23.70 lakh cases from April 2022 – February 2023, which is an increase of 68.01 percent over the same period from last year.”
