Noida: 700 govt school teachers get training on spoken English
The move comes after the Uttar Pradesh education department on March 1 had written to the basic education officers of all 75 districts in the state instructing them to train teachers so that they can teach students of classes 1 to 8 how to speak English
More than 700 teachers of the state government-run primary and upper primary schools in Gautam Budh Nagar underwent a two-hour training on spoken English on Saturday, said officials from the district basic education department.

The move comes after the Uttar Pradesh education department on March 1 had written to the basic education officers of all 75 districts in the state instructing them to train teachers so that they can teach students of classes 1 to 8 how to speak English.
The training was conducted by a non-governmental organisation that was roped in by the district basic education department.
“As government schools are Hindi medium, the government has instructed basic education departments to ensure that students are taught how to speak English. The move is aimed at honing the spoken English skills of the students,” said Dharmendra Saxena, basic education officer, Gautam Budh Nagar.
According to the officials, about 107,000 students of classes 1 to 8 in the district’s government schools will benefit from the initiative.
A total of 766 teachers from 511 government primary and upper primary schools in the district were given virtual training by the NGO using the teaching-learning material (TLM) kits, Saxena said, adding that two teachers from each school was given the training.
District training coordinator Vinay Singh said that the NGO will also provide workbooks to schools so that children can do reading and writing activities.
“A two-hour virtual training was conducted on Saturday for the teachers. The NGO had already sent TLM kits to the teachers that were used in the training. The TLM kits included teacher training diary which has lesson plans, rubber alphabets, audio device with 112 lessons in audio form and some other such tools for better learning and teaching,” said Singh.
The teachers who have been given the training will now further train other teachers of their school, the officials said. “The initiative will be operational after March 10 wherein fully trained teachers will be able to teach students how to speak English,” said Saxena.
