According to police, the woman allegedly carried out the theft with the help of her friend and his accomplices. She had been staying as a tenant at the victim’s house for the past year.

“The tenant learnt about a big inflow of cash in her landlord’s house as he dealt in scrap. On the night of August 17, she offered a sweet to his family that left the landlord, his wife, and their minor son unconscious,” said Amit Saxena, ACP (Sahibabad).

As part of the plan, she let her friend enter the house, and both took the cash from the landlord’s safe, the ACP said.

“The friend took away the cash, and she returned to her room. Her friend and his accomplices, who were waiting outside, later fled with the cash. In the morning, the family took their child to hospital for food poisoning but found that the cash was missing at home. Thereafter, police were approached,” the ACP added.

“During questioning, the woman broke down and revealed the conspiracy. She was arrested on Sunday, and a search is underway to apprehend the others,” the officer added.

Police have registered a case under the BNS sections 123 (causing hurt by means of poison, etc., with intent to commit an offence), 305 (theft in a dwelling house), and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) at Sahibabad police station on August 18.
