Two persons died and five others were injured when a speeding truck carrying cattle hit a stationary truck on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway around 6:30am in Dankaur. The injured persons are admitted to a private hospital for treatment, police said.

Vivek Tripathi, station house officer (SHO), Site V police station, said that a truck bearing Gujarat registration number was on the way from Dasna to Palwal when its rear tyre caught fire on Monday night. “The truck driver noticed the incident and stopped the vehicle that was loaded with sugar bags. He informed police and a team, along with a fire tender, reached the spot and doused the fire,” he said.

Tripath said that in the morning on Tuesday, the truck driver had gone to buy a new tyre when another truck bearing Haryana registration number hit the stationary truck.

The SHO said that there were seven persons in the second truck and two of them died in the accident. One of the deceased was identified as Amirullah, 30, a resident of Amethi. The second deceased is yet to be identified, police said.

The injured persons were identified as Suryabhan Singh, Ram Farep, Asir Ahmad, Surya, and Mohit. All the seven victims were rushed to the Greater Noida Institute of Medical Sciences where two of them were declared brought dead, police said, adding that they have not received any complaint in this regard.

In the second incident, a 35-year-old truck driver died when his vehicle hit a private bus on NH-91 in Dadri around 9am. The deceased was identified as Mubarak Khan, a resident of Bulandshahr.

Rajveer Singh Chauhan, SHO of Dadri police station, said that the private bus was going from Dadri to Bulandshar with some passengers. “The bus driver suddenly applied brakes a few metres after crossing the Luharli toll plaza. The truck bearing Haryana registration number, loaded with steel bars, hit the bus as the driver could not spot the vehicle ahead,” he said.

Khan and his helper Munawwar, 30, were injured in the accident. Locals said that the truck driver and helper were also injured with steel bars, according to police. A police team from Dadri reached the spot and sent the two to a private hospital where Khan died. Munawwar is undergoing treatment in the hospital, police said, adding that there were some passengers on the bus who escaped unhurt.

Chauhan said that police have seized the two vehicles and are investigating the case.
