Roof collapse claims teenage girl’s life at Agra’s Shiva temple

At least eight individuals, who sustained injuries during the occurrence, were subsequently taken for medical treatment.

AGRA A 17-year-old girl lost her life when the roof of an exposed veranda at a Shiva temple in the city collapsed on Monday morning. The incident occurred while pilgrims had gathered to offer prayers at the Shiva temple, situated within the jurisdiction of the Shahganj police station. At least eight individuals, who sustained injuries during the occurrence, were subsequently taken for medical treatment.

“The event occurred on Monday morning within the temple premises. The structure was already in a state of disrepair, and recent spells of rain further weakened it. The roof collapsed as devotees had assembled here for prayers to commemorate the auspicious month of Shravan,” said SP (City) Suraj Rai.

He further added, “A rescue operation was promptly executed, and the debris was cleared from the site. A 17-year-old girl, identified as Jyoti, succumbed to her injuries. The injured parties have been admitted to different hospitals for medical attention... The police have informed the district administration regarding the compensation that needs to be provided to the next of kin of the deceased and the injured.”

Taking note of the incident, chief minister Yogi Adityanath expressed sorrow over the tragic loss of life and instructed Agra officials to ensure the proper treatment of the injured.

In a comparable event on Friday, three individuals, including a young girl, tragically lost their lives as a house collapsed in the Pinahat area of Agra.
