LUCKNOW As part of an ongoing rescue operation, 32 more students were brought back to Uttar Pradesh on Thursday. These students were pursuing higher education in violence-hit Manipur. With this, the Yogi Adityanath government has managed to rescue 130 Uttar Pradesh-based students who got stuck in the north-eastern state due to ethnic clashes. Earlier, on Tuesday and Wednesday, 98 such students had returned to Uttar Pradesh.
The rescued students were first airlifted to Delhi and then brought back to their respective districts in Uttar Pradesh. The Yogi government arranged for flight tickets to rescue these students, who are enrolled in different educational institutions in Manipur. The government also coordinated with Manipur authorities to ensure that these students reach the Imphal airport safely.
Now, 12 more students are expected to return to U.P. on Friday. After this, 16 more Uttar Pradesh-based students would be left in Manipur. However, among these 16 students, five have refused to come back while the other 11 have decided to come back on their own, said Prabhu Narain Singh, relief commissioner, Uttar Pradesh.
The commissioner added, “Our priority is to safely bring back the students from U.P. who are studying in Manipur. Earlier, we got information about 136 students in Manipur. Subsequently, a campaign was launched to bring them back. Later, we got to know about 22 more students being stuck there. We are committed to bringing everyone back. The state government is taking these students to their homes in luxury buses and cars. All these students are being properly taken care of.”
Notably, students landing in Delhi from Manipur are first being taken from the airport to RC office and then, to the U.P. Bhawan, where eating and sleeping arrangements have been made for them. Arrangements have also been made to send these students back to their homes.
Simultaneously, students landing at Lucknow airport are being sent to their homes in Volvo buses while cars have been arranged for students who are from nearby areas. According to the relief commissioner, a 24X7 helpline ‘1070’ has been set up by the state government. Significantly, the Manipur government is cooperating fully with the U.P. government to evacuate students as per received information.
