The incident occurred around noon during the “Varmala” ritual when a man opened fire and the bullet accidentally hit the bride’s leg, due to which she collapsed. “The family took her to a private clinic from where the doctors referred her to Saharsa for better treatment,” police said.

The family members of the bride alleged that someone deliberately fired to spoil the function. “We had requested our relatives not to do any firing during the function, but someone did,” a family member said.

Soon after, someone uploaded a video of the incident on social media, following which the matter came to light.

Station house officer (SHO) of Pratapganj police station Prabhakar Bharti said, “We are verifying the video and will take strict action against the culprits. However, nobody came forward to lodge an FIR in this regard.” SHO said.
