The ED officials submitted the 2,200-page chargesheet containing the charges and evidence against MLA Abbas Ansari and Atif Raza. After submitting the chargesheet, ED will now attach properties of the company.

The Enforcement Directorate had registered a case of money laundering against Mukhtar Ansari, his wife Afshan Ansari, her brother Atif Raza and others in March 2021. ED officials recorded the statement of Mukhtar lodged at Banda Jail. ED officials then collected evidence related to the case for a year and recorded statements of Mukhtar’s brother MP Afzal Ansari and other persons related to him and his company Vikas constructions.

Mukhtar’s son MLA Abbas Ansari was summoned to ED’s Prayagraj unit in Civil Lines where he was arrested and taken to 14-day custody remand for questioning as he was not cooperating with officials. His uncle Atif Raza was also taken into custody remand from Ghazipur. ED also grilled employees of Mukhtar’s company along with his chartered accountant.

ED collected strong evidence against Abbas and his uncle on the basis of which a chargesheet against them has been submitted, ED officials claimed.

It is worth mentioning that Mukhtar has been accused of grabbing government land and constructing a godown which was given on rent for 15 crore annually to FCI. Cash worth several crores was transferred to Vikas constructions.
