Agartala: Five men were arrested on Thursday for allegedly gang-raping a 16-year-old girl in Tripura’s Khowai district, police said.

A case was filed in connection with the incident based on a complaint lodged by the survivor’s mother on Thursday.s

According to the police, the minor girl went out with her boyfriend and his friends on Wednesday evening to celebrate Holi. They allegedly organised a party with alcohol at a rubber plantation.

All the accused are residents of the survivor’s village.

“All the accused, aged between 20 and 25 years, were arrested on Thursday. We are verifying their documents,” a police officer said.

Police have registered the case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
