DSP Navendu Kumar said acting on a tip off, the STF team nabbed three persons from Gaipura crossing under Vindhyachal police station of Mirzapur on Tuesday. The arrested persons were identified as Neeraj Kumar Yadav, Ramu Bhartiya and Anshuman Singh of Handia area of Prayagraj.

The arrested accused during questioning informed that they used to target ATM booths without security guards. The gang members used to keep an eye at ATM booths and approached such persons who were unable to withdraw cash or they seemed to be new users. The gang members used to change their ATM cards on pretext of offering help in withdrawing cash. Other members also used to get access to the ATM PIN while the users entered it in the machine. The gang members then withdrew cash from the ATM users bank account.

The gang used to roam around in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh and committed frauds. The gang duped an ATM user on Monday and withdrew cash 5,000 from his account. They were again trying to withdraw cash when they were caught, DSP added.

An FIR has been registered against the gang members at Vindhyachal police station under relevant sections of IPC.
