Superintendent of police, Mainpuri, Kamlesh Kumar Dixit, took a serious view of the lapse and has handed over the enquiry to circle officer, Karhal, besides getting a case registered against the culprits.
A team of forensic experts was called and investigation began on Monday after the SP reached the police outpost.
Sub-inspector Anil Kumar had returned to his residence within the police outpost of Karhal town late on Monday night, after a vigil in the area. When the sub inspector awoke, he found his service pistol, watch, mobile phone and about ₹900 missing.
“The matter is certainly a serious one because citizens look up to the police for safety and security and such incidents reflect on negligence on part of S-I Anil Kumar,” Kamlesh Kumar Dixit, SP, Mainpuri, said.
“To unravel the true facts associated with the incident, circle officer, Karhal, Ashok Kumar, has been asked to probe the matter and submit his report. The concerned sub-inspector will face action for carelessness, if the report indicates so,” the SP said.
“A case has been registered at Karhal police station against unidentified accused for theft at Karhal police station of Mainpuri and the guilty will be nabbed soon,” Dixit said.
