A 23-year-old man accused of raping a minor girl attempted suicide in police custody at a police station in Agra on Monday. The accused was admitted by police in serious condition at a private hospital.

The matter relates to Itimad-ud-Daulah police station of Agra city where a complaint was lodged on Sunday by a man alleging rape with his minor daughter and accused one Dharmesh alias Dharmendra in the matter. Dharmesh was also accused of issuing life threats to the minor girl, said Vikas Kumar, superintendent of police (SP) city at Agra.
“In the process of evidence collection for case registered against the named accused, Dharmesh was taken into custody on Monday. The accused, on Monday, attempted to commit suicide by hanging himself with a cloth piece,” said the SP city.
“The accused has been admitted at a private hospital and is undergoing treatment,” he said.
It was revealed that the accused extracted the cloth piece from a mattress lying in lockup at the police station when he was alone on Monday afternoon.
