Woman drug peddler held with charas worth ₹2 cr at Indo-Nepal border
A woman from Himachal Pradesh was held at the porous India-Nepal border in UP’s Bahraich district on Wednesday while smuggling five kilograms of charas (cannabis) worth ₹2 crore. She hid it tactfully in packets in her clothes to dodge the police team and Shashtra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel guarding the border.

She hid it tactfully in packets in her clothes to dodge the police team and Shashtra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel guarding the border.
Sharing further information about the recovery, Bahraich additional superintendent of police (ASP) Ashok Kumar said a joint team of SSB and Rupaideeha police led by sub-inspector Rupaideeha Ashwani Kumar Pandey stopped the woman on suspicion near Rupaideeha check post on the international border on Wednesday morning.
He said the team recovered five kilograms of charas (cannabis) hidden inside her clothes all over the body. He said the team immediately arrested the woman who was identified as Maya aka Sapna, a resident of district Kullu of Himachal Pradesh.
The ASP said that anti-social elements and smugglers want to take advantage of the biting cold weather to smuggle goods and narcotics through the Indo-Nepal border and that is why both the police and SSB have intensified patrolling along the border area in winters. He said all the people with suspicious activities were being searched while crossing the border with an aim to tighten noose around drug peddlers.
He said the police registered a case under section 8/20 of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and produced the woman before the district court from where she was sent to jail.
He said the initial investigation revealed that the woman is working as a carrier for a drug trafficking racket and she was paid on every trip to smuggle drugs across the porous India-Nepal border. He said further efforts are on to unravel the nexus and arrest other people involved in it.
