Pune: In a major crackdown on unauthorised vending activities, the Central Railway Pune division conducted a surprise drive across railway premises and trains on Monday, resulting in action against 27 unauthorised hawkers and vendors. The drive was undertaken with the assistance of the Railway Protection Force (RPF).

During the operation, officials apprehended 27 individuals engaged in unauthorised vending activities on railway premises and onboard trains. The offenders were booked under Section 144 of the Railways Act, and 54,000 penalty was recovered, with each offender fined 2,000 in accordance with the provisions of the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act, 2026, and railway regulations.

Hemant Kumar Behera, divisional commercial manager and spokesperson of Pune division, said, “Such special drives will continue regularly to curb illegal activities, maintain cleanliness and discipline, and provide passengers with safe, genuine and quality products during their journey.”
