A four-year-old girl was killed and her grandfather was seriously injured after being hit by a dumper truck at Alandi-Wadgaon on Monday at 11.30 am. The minor was returning from school when the incident took place.
The deceased has been identified as Tanisha Vishal Thorve (4) resident of Thorve wasti,Chahroli ,in Khed tehsil of Pune district. The injured has been identified as Kisan Eknath Thorve (65)
According to police officials, on Monday morning, Thorve and his granddaughter were on their way home from school, when the incident took place near ‘Goshala’ on Alandi –Wadgaon raod. A dumper truck rammed into their two-wheeler, the vehicle skid and the girl fell down. Passers-by rushed her to the hospital, where she was announced dead. Her grandfather has sustained serious injuries and has been admitted to KK hospital, Alandi for treatment.
The driver of the dumper truck, identified as Santosh Jamiruddin Mal,a resident of Kelgaon in Khed tehsil was trying to flee from the spot. However, angry residents nabbed him and handed him over to the local police.
A resident requesting anonymity said, “Tanisha was charming, lovable and very familiar with all the local residents of the colony and was loved by all. The family have lost an adorable child.
Ramesh Patil,senior police Inspector, Alandi police station said, “They were returning home from school when the accident occurred. Tanisha succumbed to injuries. We have arrested the driver and further investigation is going on.”
Alandi police has registered a case under various sections like rash driving and death due to negligence of Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Act 1988.
