The government resolution (GR) was released on June 23.

“Difficult daily words in Marathi/Urdu will have English translation in brackets for easy understanding. The meaning of mathematical and scientific concepts will be majorly in bilingual format,” said Krishna Kumar Patil, director, Balbharti on Sunday.

Talking about the hindrance faced by students on coming across difficult English words in books, Jayshree Deshpande, president, Parents Association of Pune said on Sunday. “Students face the difficulty when they reach higher grades. It is a welcome decision as English and Marathi are the two widely spoken languages in the state.”

The State Council for Educational Research and Training (SCERT) and Balbharti designs and develops the integrated and bilingual textbooks. Patil said, “The books will be introduced in Class 1 for Marathi and Urdu medium schools and Class 2 for Marathi medium schools on a pilot basis.”

Patil said, “We plan to cover Class 1 to Class 5 in Marathi and Urdu schools by the academic year 2026-27. The policy will be reviewed regularly and requisite changes or additions will be made.”
