BJP starts preparations for Kasba Peth bypoll; central leadership will take call on candidate, says Patil
Party members of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have begun preparations for the upcoming bypolls in Kasba Peth and Chinchwad assembly constituencies
Party members of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have begun preparations for the upcoming bypolls in Kasba Peth and Chinchwad assembly constituencies. Pune district guardian minister Chandrakant Patil held a review meeting for Kasba Peth bypoll on Monday which was attended by MP, MLAs and party office bearers.
The election was necessitated following the death of BJP MLAs—Mukta Tilak and Laxman Jagtap. Tilak died on December 22 while Jagtap passed away on January 3 this year.
Elections will be held in both constituencies on February 27 and counting will take place on March 2.
Patil said, “Though both Kasba and Chinchwad are BJP’s constituencies, we will not take it lightly. Also, we will try for unopposed elections, party workers will not keep a laid-back attitude.”
“The candidate is not decided yet, but once the central leadership takes a call we will work as a party and support the candidate,” he said.
Patil said, “We will recommend the names of willing candidates at state-level. They will submit the names to Centre, after which central leadership will take the final call.”
Tilak’s family members, meanwhile, have also shown interest in contesting the election.
When asked about the opposition’s demand to give a candidate from Tilak’s family for an unopposed contest, Patil said, “We never said that party will not give a ticket to family members. We will decide about it soon.”
A meeting will be held on January 25 about the preparedness for Chinchwad bypolls, he added.
Jagdish Mulik, BJP’s city unit president, said, “We have begun preparations and leaders from across the city will campaign for and support the candidate.”
