Former Congress city unit presidents Ramesh Bagwe and Mohan Joshi recently met with the new police commissioner Ritesh Kumar and demanded that all cases against political leaders for agitation be dropped. The police commissioner promised to take action.
In light of this, Shinde issued the letter on Tuesday and stated, “Workers from the Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha recently attacked the historic Congress Bhavan. Police filed it as a political case under pressure from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. Even though our leaders met with the police commissioner and demanded that all cases be dropped, they may be misled. We will not excuse those who caused damage to the Congress Bhavan.”
Shinde stated, “Though some of our leaders met with the police commissioner, their opinions are their own and not those of the party. Police should take into account the party’s official position, which was submitted on the party’s official letterhead and signed by the city unit.”
Reacting to the development, Joshi said, “I am not aware of the letter issued by the president of the city unit. I’ll go over it and then respond to it.”
