On November 18, workers of the BJP barged into the Congress’s Pune city headquarters and attempted to blacken the photographs of party leader Rahul Gandhi to protest against his remarks on late Hindutva ideologue VD Savarkar.

According to the Congress leaders, the BJYM members entered the party office despite deployment of police force.

Arvind Shinde, president, Congress city unit, said, “When all party office-bearers were out of station to participate in the Bharat Jodo Yatra, the BJP youth workers tried to attack the Congress Bhavan.”

The Congress blamed the BJP youth wing president Raghvendra Mankar and his supporters for illegally entering the premises and trying to damage property.

“Police filed a weak case and all were released soon. We have sought strict action against the violators and plan to hold protest in front of Shivajinagar police station if our demand is not met,” he said.

Congress leaders Sanjay Balgude, Ravindra Dhangekar, Manish Anand and others were present at the Shivajinagar police station.

Arvind Mane, senior inspector, Shivajinagar police station, said, “We have received the application from Congress leaders.”
