Believing on the fake doctor’s words, the relatives transferred the money and later realised that they were duped
The Sassoon General Hospital has filed a complaint of a deceased’s kin duped of ₹6,300 on the pretext of speedy post-mortem.
Dr Parag Pramod Varade (35) lodged complaint at the Bundgarden police station.
According to the complaint, on August 20, an unknown fraudster posing as Dr Varade called the patients’ relatives and demanded ₹6,300 to avoid post-mortem delay. He also assured to provide ambulance service at lower rates.
Believing on the fake doctor’s words, the relatives transferred the money and later realised that they were duped.
On August 22, an unknown man called relatives of patient Jayashree Bakde pretending that he was Dr Varade from Sassoon hospital and sought ₹6,000-7,000 for medicinal expenses. However, they refused to pay.
Assistant police inspector Deepak Barge has urged patients and their relatives who visit Sassoon hospital to alert the police when they receive such calls.
