Now, separate lanes for buses, auto, cars at Pune railway station
The move will ensure better management of traffic and safer movement of passengers outside the station
The next time you travel from the Pune railway station, and have to pass through strict dedicated lanes of cars, auto-rickshaws and Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) buses, do not be surprised as the railways are now creating separate lanes for vehicles coming to Pune railway station for dropping and picking up passengers.
As per the information given by the Railway Protection Force (RPF), there is always a rush of vehicles coming to the station to drop and pick up the passengers from the front main gate which is near the Mahatma Gandhi statue. This leads to traffic congestion, inturn causing inconvenience to commuters who pass by the station road. It also creates problems for emergency vehicles like ambulance and fire vehicles which get holed up in the traffic mess. Considering this, the RPF has decided to make separate lanes for all vehicles.
B S Raghuvanshi, RPF senior police inspector at Pune railway station said, “We are in process to implement separate lanes for vehicles, like cars, auto-rickshaw and PMPML buses which come inside the Pune railway station. There were several complaints about cars and autos parked wrongly creating traffic congestion. So, within the next few days this process of separate lanes will commence.”
Regular visitors pointed out that the entire stretch outside the station witnesses traffic jams and haphazard parking of auto-rickshaws and private vehicles. Halting of autos, traffic congestion due to cars and buses is a common site, claim visitors.
“There is always a rush of vehicles and mismanagement outside the Pune railway station. Autos are parked wrongly and buses also occupy too much space. Hence, it is good to have separate lanes made for each vehicle,” said Subhendu Das a regular passenger.
