Oldest foot overbridge at Pune railway station to be demolished soon

A safety audit of the FoB was done and several cracks and other details were noted by the railway administration after which it was closed for public use

The safety audit of the oldest foot overbridge (FoB) at Pune railway station is complete, and the process to demolish the FoB will start in a phase-wise manner, said officials.

Since the train operations resumed after the first lockdown in 2020, the FoB was closed for public use.

“The safety audit work of the FoB is complete and soon we will start the demolition work in a phase-wise manner. We now have built another FoB near the old one and so there won’t be any inconvenience to the passengers,” said Renu Sharma, Pune divisional railway manager (DRM).

There are three other FOBs at the Pune railway station. The one which opened for public use last year is the wider one and connects all the six platforms. The second FoB which was built in 2015 towards the Solapur end connects platforms No. 1, 2 and 3. While there are two other FoBs, both towards the Mumbai end of the station.

Common ticket centre for metro and railway to come up on station premises

The work of the Pune Metro station is underway near the second entry gate of the railway station. While a common ticket centre will also be built on the premises.

“We are holding regular meetings with the Pune Metro officials to discuss the design of the ticket centre. It will come up at the new FoB which will also be the entrance of the metro station,” said Sharma.
