Our pride is our national flag, says Fadnavis at SPPU event
Under the campaign the university plans to reach nearly 5 lakh students across 750 colleges as part of its attempt at the second world record
I congratulate the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) for a second Guinness world record in three years. The last time when I came to commemorate a record, I was the then chief minister of the state and now when I have come for the second time, I am the deputy chief minister. So, if there is a programme for a third world record, I won’t come for it,” Maharashtra deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said jokingly on Wednesday. He was speaking at the inaugural function of a campaign started by the SPPU under the ‘har ghar tiranga’ initiative of the central government. The SPPU is all set for its second Guinness world record between today and August 15.
Under the campaign initiated by the SPPU titled ‘largest online album of people holding national flag’, the university plans to reach nearly 5 lakh students across 750 colleges as part of its attempt at the second world record. While the minimum target for the SPPU is to get 1.5 lakh students to register and send their individual photographs.
“The SPPU is going towards becoming one of the best universities in the world; only teaching is not enough and we need to be a good member of society. To develop the nation, we should always be thankful to the society and people who empower us. Through such initiatives, we are connected to students with the nation’s development programmes. Today’s generation is very fast thinking and have the capacity to become world leaders. Our national pride is our national flag and even today, our soldiers are fighting to save our country and the tiranga,” said Fadnavis.
The programme was held at the huge sports complex in the university premises, and had state cabinet minister Chandrakant Patil, SPPU vice-chancellor professor Karbhari Kale, pro-vice chancellor professor Sanjeev Sonawane, BJP MLA Siddharth Shirole and several other dignitaries in attendance. While students from various colleges in Pune, Nashik and Ahmednagar districts, too, attended the programme.
Participating in this world record-making event, Fadnavis, too, clicked a photo holding the national flag in his hand and uploaded it on the official website of the university. The campaign has started from Tuesday and will go on till independence day on August 15. Anyone who wants to participate in this world record campaign should click his/her photo holding a national flag in hand even as selfies won’t be allowed. There should be a plain background against which the person is standing and photos will not be accepted with boards or even natural surroundings in the background.
