Politicians swoop in as minor survivor of Pune stabbing case misses Class 10 exam

PUNE The teenage girl who was stabbed during her Class 10 farewell missed the board exams which began on Tuesday as she is recovering in hospital. Meanwhile, the incident has garnered attention from politicians from the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) as well as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

As the girl is undergoing treatment at a major private hospital in the city, Rupali Chakankar, head of Maharashtra women’s commission and a member of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Chitra Wagh, member of BJP visited her.

“A part of her liver has been removed. She is still scheduled for more surgeries. Was it not the school’s responsibility? Who was to take care of her until her father reaches there? Her father had asked for CCTV footage but nothing was done. The school should be reported to the education department. The father was saying that he has to gather money from various sources. I say that the government must pay the entire medical expense; this is our demand,” said Wagh during a press conference.

Meanwhile, the attacker has himself tried to die by suicide after the incident. He was found in his house in Chandannagar and was shifted to a hospital for treatment, according to police.

A case under Sections 307 (attempted murder), 354(d) (stalking) of Indian Penal Code along with Section 12 of Protection of children from sexual offence act, 2012, Section 37(1)with 135 of Mahrashtra Police Act, Section 4(25) of Arms Act, and Sections 3 and 7 of Criminal Law Amendment Act was registered at Yerawada police station.
