Pune airport road to be decongested; widening work to start soon
Union minister of state for civil aviation and Pune MP Murlidhar Mohol said on Tuesday that the road-widening project, funded through CSR, is set to begin soon
Pune: Air travellers arriving in Pune will soon have a wider and smoother approach road to the airport, along with a revamped stretch showcasing the city’s heritage, art, and culture. The road from Nagpur Chawl to the airport entrance will be widened from 12 metres to 24 metres and developed to international standards with landscaping and beautification.

The project, funded through CSR, is set to begin soon, Union minister of state for civil aviation and Pune MP Murlidhar Mohol said on Tuesday.
Pune International Airport in Lohegaon handles 200–225 flights daily and over one crore passengers annually, leading to constant congestion on the approach road. The widening had been delayed for years as the land belonged to the Air Force and private owners.
Mohol intervened, after which both the Air Force and landowners granted approvals, clearing the way to upgrade the 3 km stretch. Mohol said the improved road will create a stronger first and last impression for visitors while better reflecting Pune’s identity and cultural character.
The upgraded road will feature an international-standard surface, wider carriageways, footpaths, ornamental trees, fountains, lighting, and street furniture. Art installations and sculptures depicting Pune’s heritage, culture, and traditions will also be included.
