Pune sees increase in two-wheeler registration this Gudi Padwa
As per the data shared by the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO), a total 11,964 vehicles were registered between March 7 and 21 this year
This Gudi Padwa, there has been an increase in vehicle registration as compared to the corresponding period over the last three years which saw a slowdown in the purchase of vehicles due to the Covid-19 pandemic. As compared to other types of vehicles, registration of two-wheelers has increased this year.

As per the data shared by the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO), a total 11,964 vehicles were registered between March 7 and 21 this year as compared to a total 11,466 vehicles registered during the corresponding period last year. Whereas, a total 8011 two-wheelers were registered this year as compared to 6,580 last year, with many people opting for e-bikes given the increased fuel prices.
Deputy regional transport officer Sanjeev Bhor, said, “There is an increase in vehicle registration ahead of Gudi Padwa this year as compared to last year. On Gudi Padwa day itself, a large number of vehicles are being registered as many people prefer to receive delivery of their vehicles on this day.”
On the occasion of Gudi Padwa on Wednesday, there was a rush at vehicle showrooms across the city and people were seen taking deliveries of their vehicles. Further, a large number of people were seen opting for electric bikes (e-bikes) and electric cars (e-cars) over petrol and diesel vehicles.
Balasaheb Shirke said, “Today, we bought our new car home as it was the auspicious day of Gudi Padwa. We had already completed all our procedures and the vehicle registration process from the showroom and the RTO so it was a smooth delivery for us.”
Manasi Gandhi said, “Today, we got the delivery of our e-bike which I had booked around three months ago. But I wanted the delivery today so I waited for almost a month despite the fact that the showroom was ready to deliver my bike earlier.”
