Pune-based Mahatma Gandhi Smarak Samiti has approached the Bombay High Court against the alleged remarks on Mahatma Gandhi and others by Sambhaji Bhide.

Recently Bhide had reportedly made a statement against Mahatma Gandhi which went viral after an audio clip surfaced on social media. On behalf of Mahatma Gandhi Smarak Samiti, members including Kumar Saptarshi, Anwar Rajan, and Sandip Barve, a petition has been filed on August 3, 2023, in the High Court.
In response to the development, Saptarshi stated, “We seek the court’s guidance in framing the guidelines between freedom of speech and protection of historical figures’ reputation. Unreasonable opinions are frequently disseminated these days thanks to social media, but we must retain the dignity and respect of historic personalities.”
Recently, the Mahatma Gandhi Smarak Samiti slammed Bhide, claiming that he had constantly made cynical claims and was attempting to promote false history throughout society.
