A 39-year-old primary school teacher died on Tuesday after falling 500 feet while attempting to click a selfie with the monkeys at Varandha Ghat , said Bhor police officials on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Abdul Sheikh. He works as a primary school teacher at Mandangad in Ratnagiri district. His body was recovered at 3 am by a joint operation run by Salunkhe Rescue Team Mahad, Sahyadri Rescue Team Bhor, Bhor Police administration and Mahad administration under guidance of Vitthal Dabade, police inspector at Bhor police station.
According to police, Sheikh, a resident of Nasrapur was on his way to Mandangad. He was returning after his leave. When he was at Waghjai Mandir in Varandha Ghat, he stopped and took some photographs. He also fed monkeys and took some photographs with them.At around 5:30 pm while taking a selfie he fell from the cliff.
Vitthal Dabade, senior police inspector at Bhor police station said, “He halted near Waghjai temple and took some photographs. According to locals he lost his balance while taking a selfie and fell into the 500 feet gorge. Immediately after the incident police teams, trekkers groups-initiated rescue operation but unfortunately, he was found dead.’’
