Congress party city unit president Arvind Shinde has appealed to sitting MP Girish Bapat to help salvage the city’s degrading political scene. In a letter drafted to the senior BJP leader, Shinde said, “I am writing this letter not as a city unit president but as an ordinary party worker. I have been in political life for the last 27 years and have witnessed MP Bapat’s political journey of five decades. It is painful that to get cheap publicity, youth political workers are stooping to a new low and attacking each other’s offices.”

Shinde went on to say that such behaviour was detrimental to the city’s political culture and that the top hierarchy should condemn it.
“I acknowledge that MP Bapat is a senior leader in the city and he will discourage misdeeds by his party’s workmen.”
The statement comes in the wake of recent protests at the Congress Bhavan.
Shinde continued, “Having political differences is one thing, but crossing limits and attacking counterparts is not ideal behaviour. Many times, we’ve seen leaders maintaining friendly equations despite their political differences. This is the real culture of the city and all the parties need to work together for the city’s development. The new trend to exchange blows is far from ideal and I hope as a veteran leader, MP Bapat acts on it.”
