Two held for cheating man of ₹2.17 crore over kumbh mela tender
Nashik police arrested two men for cheating a man of ₹2.17 crore by falsely promising Kumbh Mela tender work, using fake documents.
The Nashik City crime branch has arrested two persons for allegedly cheating a man of ₹2.17 crore by promising to secure tender-related work for the upcoming Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela, police said on Wednesday.
The accused have been identified as Tanay Mahajan, 32, of Jamner, and Narendra Mahajan, 51, of Navsakha. Police said three cases have been registered at the Nashik Road police station in connection with the alleged fraud.
According to the police, the accused gained the complainant’s confidence by claiming that they could arrange work related to the kumbh mela. They allegedly showed him a fake work order bearing the names of the Nashik Municipal Corporation and the Nashik Kumbh Mela Authority and assured him that the work would be allotted to him.
Believing their claims, the complainant allegedly paid the accused ₹2.17 crore. However, when the promised work was not secured, he realised that the documents and assurances provided by the accused were allegedly fraudulent and approached the police.
Following the complaint, the two suspects were arrested.
Further investigation is underway.
