Two women arrested for stealing jewellery in Dattawadi

The Dattawadi police have arrested two women for stealing jewellery under the pretext of shopping at a goldsmith’s shop. A mangalsutra estimated to be worth 50 lakh has been confiscated from them and two cases of theft from a jewellery shop have been detected.

The arrested women were identified as Jyotsna Suraj Kachhvai (31) of Upper Indiranagar, Bibwewadi and Bhagyashree Chandrakant Jeur (29) of Bharatnagar, Katraj.

Kachhvai and Jeur had stolen the mangalsutra and the crime was investigated by the police. Police personnel Pramod Bhosale, Purushottam Gunla and Dayanand Telange Patil, who got information about the theft, nabbed the duo on the Pune-Satara road and took them into custody by setting a trap. Kacchvai on interrogation revealed that she had stolen jewellery from Dattawadi and Sangvi area under the pretext of buying jewellery. Earlier, 22 cases have been registered against Kachhvai for stealing under the pretext of buying bullion.

The investigation team consisted of sub-inspectors Swapnil Lohar, Chandrakant Kamthe, Kundan Shinde, Raju Jadhav and Amit Surve under the guidance of senior police inspector Abhay Mahajan and crime branch inspector Vijay Khomane.
