Woman cop beaten up by traffic violators in Pune

PUNE: The Pimpri-Chinchwad police have arrested two persons for beating up an on-duty woman traffic police along with her three colleagues at Dehu Phata chowk in Alandi on Sunday.

The victim has lodged a complaint against the culprits at Wakad police station. The accused have been identified as Bhushan Jain and Dattatraya Kokare.
According to the complaint filed by constable Sarubai Gitte, she works as a traffic cop in Pimpri and was monitoring traffic with her colleagues on Sunday at Dehu Phata Chowk in Alandi.
Due to the Ekadashi rush, traffic police had installed barricades at several locations to prevent vehicles from entering the Sant Dnyaneshwar Temple. Around 7 pm, Jain attempted to sneak past the barricades, and Gitte intervened. Irate, the accused began an argument with the cop and threatened her for enforcing traffic laws. Jain allegedly manhandled and sexually molested Gitte after her repeated warnings not to use the closed road.
As per FIR details, Gitte claims that when her colleagues tried to intervene, the accused duo threw punches at them. They then tried to flee the spot, but onlookers chased down the miscreants.
Dighi police informed that while Jain tried to escape the angry mob, his head accidentally collided with an electricity pole and he suffered minor injuries.
A case has been registered with Wakad police station under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 354 (Assault or criminal force to women with intent to outrage her modesty), 509 (Gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 332 (Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation), and 333 (Voluntarily causing grievous hurt to deter public servant from his duty).
