Youth arrested in Pune for illegal possession of pistol
He has been identified as Suryapratap Gandharvsingh, a resident of Bhamboli in Khed tehsil of the Pune district
A 22-year-old was arrested for illegal possession of a country-made revolver in Khed on Saturday night. Mahalunge police have recovered one country-made pistol and two live cartridges from the accused worth ₹26,000.
He has been identified as Suryapratap Gandharvsingh, a resident of Bhamboli in Khed tehsil of the Pune district. He works as a tempo driver in a private transport company.
According to Mahalunge police, on Saturday at 11:11pm, officials from Mahalunge police station received a tip-off about a man allegedly carrying firearms. Accordingly, police arrested him from an open parking space at the backside of a private company in Khed.
Prashant Thombre, investigation officer, said, “The accused did not have the necessary license for the pistol. Further, when asked where he purchased it from, he failed to provide satisfactory details. Hence, we have registered a case against him.”
Thombre further said, “The accused claims to have gotten the pistol in an unknown bag found eight months ago in Pimpri-Chinchwad city.” Police are questioning the accused man to trace the source of the firearms and whether the weapons were used for committing any crimes.
A case has been registered at Mahalunge police station under relevant sections of the Arms Act.
