While on patrol duty on Friday, police constables Sameer Malwadkar and Rahul Dhotre received information that accused Akash Dhotre alias Kallu (21) had stolen a Honda Activa parked near Mahatma Phule statue and was standing near BSNL office in Kasewadi, Bhavani peth.

The detection branch personnel immediately swung into action, apprehended him and asked questions about ownership of the two-wheeler which was found in his possession which he failed to answer satisfactorily. He was taken into custody and on further interrogation, he spilled the beans.

The officials found that the two-wheeler was stolen and an FIR was lodged by its owner at Khadak police station. While in custody, Kallu on sustained interrogation told the interrogators that during the span of the past two years, he had stolen four Activa’s from Shukrawar peth, Budhwar peth and Sinhgad road areas.

Accordingly, the police recovered the stolen bikes and the total seizure according to the current market price has been estimated to be worth Rs 1.75 lakh.

Senior police inspector Uttam Chakre Patil said that Kallu specialised in stealing only Honda Activa bikes as they fetched a good resale value. “ We are trying to find out his connection with other vehicle thieves in connection with the incident and investigation is on to find out if more such thefts were carried out by him,” he said.
