The snatching took place last Saturday near Bikanerwala restaurant, about 500 metres from the office of the west Delhi deputy commissioner of police.
The injured woman, Reeta Goswami, retired as a manager from the Life Insurance Corporation of India and her husband is a doctor. They live in Rajouri Garden.
Goswami said she suffered a fracture to her leg and a hairline fracture to her arm and had to undergo surgery. “I have been badly injured and bedridden. I am trying to recover from my injuries,” she said.
In her statement to the police, Goswami said the snatching took place around 10pm on Saturday, just as she and her husband left the Bikanerwala restaurant, where they had dined to celebrate her birthday.
The couple was walking on a service lane towards their parked car when two men on a motorcycle suddenly swooped on her and snatched her purse. In the process, Goswami fell and injured her arm and leg and also sustained injuries to her hip.
She told the police that she could neither see the men’s faces, nor note their motorcycle’s number plate.
The police later registered a case of theft and snatching at the Rajouri Garden police station.
