Spurned, Moga man murders woman in Jagraon gurdwara

Victim was hacked to death, say police

A 26-year-old Moga man hacked his lover to death at Nanaksar gurdwara in Jagraon on Friday and fled from the spot after locking the room, said police. The accused has been identified as Kuldeep Singh, 27, a resident of Talwandi Bhagria village in Moga.The victim is Gurjit Kaur, 26, a resident of Moga.

Police said that the accused had a verbal spat with the victim before he murdered the woman. Kuldeep suspected that the woman had illicit relation with another man, said police sources. The accused had introduced Gurjit , a divorcee, as her wife to the shrine volunteers.

Used to sell herbs outside gurdwara

The accused Kuldeep used to sell powdered herbs outside the gurdwara premises and was residing at a room in the shrine above the langar hall. On Friday, the accused came to the room with Gurjit where the duo indulged in a verbal spat.

Hearing the arguments, when the shrine volunteers intervened, the accused asked them to stay out of the matter claiming that Gurjit is his wife and it is a family matter. Following this, Kuldeep locked the room from inside.

After sometime, the accused came out of the room, locked it and left. Meanwhile, the shrine volunteers assumed that the couple had gone. However, the murder came to the fore after one of the shrine volunteers noticed blood stains at the door and informed the police. A police team reached the spot, broke open the door and found the woman lying in a pool of blood.

Superintendent of police (SP, detective) Rajveer Singh said, as per initial investigations, it seems that the accused has hacked the victim to death with a sharp-edged weapon. The police are yet to recover the murder weapon.

The police identified the woman from her Aadhar Card and informed her family members. A case was registered under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). A hunt is on for the arrest of the accused, said police.
