"She had the rare distinction of working with three major political figures of Tamil Nadu - M G Ramachandran , M Karunanidhi, and J Jayalalithaa. She also collaborated with iconic actors like Sivaji Ganesan, Gemini Ganesan, Kamal Haasan, and Rajinikanth," Prabhakar said.
Born as Sankaramanchi Janaki, she was married to Sankaramanchi Srinivasa Rao. She is survived by three children, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
She acted in over 400 films, notably in K Balachander's acclaimed works like Ethir Neechal and Kavya Thalaivi, where she portrayed the struggles of middle-class women with profound realism. Beyond acting, she was known for her skills in interior design and culinary arts.

Sowcar Janaki received prestigious honours, including the Tamil Nadu government's Kalaimamani award, the Nandi Award , the Rajyotsava Award , and the Padmashri from the Union Government in 2022, he added.
Janaki was born in 1931 and made her acting debut at a young age of 19 in the Telugu film 'Shavukaru', directed by L V Prasad, that earned her the moniker Sowcar.
The Assembly observed two minutes' silence as a mark of respect to her legacy before resuming the day's proceedings.
