It is said, “If you don’t move forward you will move backwards.” So it is imperative that we keep a target to steer our life towards a higher goal. At some point, we slow down and begin to take stock of what we are and how we became what we are. Gradually, like the layers of an onion, we peel off experiences, emotions, lessons and unresolved matters. Happy events give us memories, and negative events lead to pain, and that pain has to be dealt with, till we come to the core of the problem — which is nothing.

At 60 that is the state I would like to be in. I would sit alone, gradually talk my mind into an easy movement till it wants to slow down, peel off those layers by dealing with the issues, forgiving, forgetting, understanding and accepting, till I finally put them all away. A chink seems to open somewhere which introduces the bliss of “nothingness”; a void.
I read somewhere that human beings are the only species that have the intelligence to feel such a phenomenon. Yet most of us entangle ourselves in issues that are so trivial. How could someone in all his/ her potential and wisdom waste a life that has the ability to experience such beauty? We will have to find our own path appealing to our nature and our needs. The quest in itself is a worthy cause: At 60-plus these little moments of “me with myself” sitting in the quiet recesses of my turbulent mind and experiencing the silence are the most rewarding moments of my life. The journey has just begun.
